Purro is an app where you have a spoken English conversation with a hand-painted cat character. This policy explains, plainly, what happens to your data when you use it.
Signing in
Purro signs you in anonymously. There is no account to create, no email address, no name, and no social login. Your session is identified only by a randomly generated identifier that is not tied to your real identity.
Your voice conversation
When you talk with Purro, your device's microphone audio streams directly from your phone to OpenAI's Realtime API over an encrypted connection, using a short-lived, single-use access token that our server issues right before you connect. Your voice audio does not pass through our servers — we never receive or handle the audio stream itself.
We do not store the content of your conversation — what you said or what Purro said — in any form, on our servers or in our database. We keep no recording and no transcript of your conversations on our side.
OpenAI processes your voice audio as the AI service provider that powers the conversation, under its own privacy and data-use policies. We have not arranged any special data-retention agreement with OpenAI beyond what OpenAI states in its own policies, so OpenAI's standard retention practices for its Realtime API apply to that processing. Before your first call, Purro asks for your permission to send your audio to OpenAI; you can turn it off at any time in Settings (it then asks again before the next call). Besides the audio, OpenAI receives the name you chose in Settings, if any, so Purro can call you by it — not your anonymous identifier. See OpenAI's Privacy Policy for details.
What our server does store
Our server does not see or store what you say. To run the app, our database keeps these records tied to your anonymous identifier:
- Your entitlement: your current tier, how many conversation minutes you've been allotted, and the start/end dates of your current billing period.
- Session records: for each conversation, when it started and ended, how many seconds you used, which AI model and voice were used, and token-usage counts we use to monitor cost. These are usage metadata only — never the words spoken.
- Minute packs: your remaining purchased minutes and a receipt for each pack you bought.
To keep the free trial fair, the server also keeps, for about a day, a count of free trials started from each network, keyed by a salted one-way hash of the IP address (the address itself is not stored), plus a note that an identifier has already received its trial.
The conversation history you can scroll through in the app is stored only on your device.
Microphone permission
Purro asks for microphone access solely to capture your speech during a conversation with Purro. It is not used for anything else, and you can decline or revoke it at any time in iOS Settings.
Subscriptions and payments
Purro's subscriptions are purchased through the App Store. We never see or handle your payment details — Apple processes the payment.
To know which subscription you hold, we use RevenueCat, a subscription-management service, as our processor. For that purpose RevenueCat receives your anonymous identifier and the purchase record for this app (which product, when it was purchased, when the period ends, and whether it is a sandbox or production purchase). We use it only to grant the conversation minutes you paid for — never for advertising.
No advertising, no tracking
Purro contains no third-party advertising and no analytics, attribution, or tracking SDKs. Settings does show a card promoting our own other apps — that is advertising for our apps; its content is loaded from ootssu.com and no identifier is sent with that request. The only third-party services involved are the AI service that powers the conversation and the subscription-management service described above, both used strictly to run the app. We do not build advertising profiles from your usage, and we do not sell or share your personal data.
AI-generated content
Purro's replies are generated in real time by an AI model. They are not reviewed by a person before you hear them, and they may be inaccurate or nonsensical. See our Terms of Use for the limits of what Purro's responses should be relied on for.
Children and age
Purro is intended for adults and is not directed to children. The minimum age to use Purro is 13, consistent with OpenAI's own API terms. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
Your choices
- You can stop using the app at any time; deleting the app removes anything stored locally on your device.
- Delete my data (Settings): deletes from our server your entitlement, minute balance, pack receipts and session records, and on this device your saved name and conversation history. Purchased minutes are not refunded; subscriptions are billed by Apple, so cancel them in your Apple Account settings. The sign-in record (the anonymous identifier) is deleted too, unless another OOTSSU app on the same service still uses it. The free-trial counters above are kept, because they contain no conversation data and exist to stop the trial being claimed again. The app then starts over with a new anonymous identifier.
- Because sign-in is anonymous, we have no email address or account to look up your data by — the in-app button is the reliable way to delete it.
- You can disable microphone access in iOS Settings → Purro at any time.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. We'll update the date above when we do.
